Wolverhampton Wanderers have left Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare out of their pre-season training squad, intensifying speculation that the 25-year-old could be on his way out of Molineux this summer.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the Nigerian forward was not included in Wolves’ squad as preparations for the new campaign got underway, a decision that has further fueled expectations of an impending departure.
According to Romano, Serie A side Fiorentina remain firmly in the race for Arokodare despite having their opening bid rejected by Wolves. Negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing, with the Italian outfit hopeful of reaching an agreement in the coming weeks as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The Viola view the Nigerian as a key addition to their squad and are expected to return with an improved offer after their initial approach was turned down.
Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor are also keeping a close watch on developments, but Arokodare is understood to favour a move to one of Europe’s top-five leagues and is not keen on a switch to Turkey.
The striker’s preference for a move to a major European league could play into Fiorentina’s hands as they look to secure his signature.
Arokodare remains under contract with Wolves until 2029, with the club holding an option to extend his deal by a further year. This leaves Wolves under no immediate pressure to sell and puts them in a strong negotiating position as suitors circle.
The Premier League club are expected to demand a significant transfer fee before sanctioning his departure, with the Nigerian having established himself as an important member of the squad since his arrival.
With pre-season now underway and Arokodare training away from the first-team squad, the coming weeks are expected to bring further developments in the transfer saga. Fiorentina are believed to be preparing an improved bid, while Wolves remain firm on their valuation of the 25-year-old forward.
Discussions between all parties are ongoing, with the Nigerian’s future expected to be resolved before the summer transfer window closes.
