Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have begun their training camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Poland from 5 to 27 September.
Head coach Moses Aduku has invited 28 players for the initial phase of camping, with 16 already in camp. The remaining invited players are expected to join the squad in the coming days.
The technical crew wasted no time in commencing intensive training sessions as the seven-time African champions begin fine-tuning their preparations for the global tournament.
The Falconets secured qualification for Poland after an impressive campaign in the African qualifiers. They thrashed Rwanda 5-0 on aggregate in the second round before overcoming Senegal 3-2 on aggregate in the penultimate round.
Nigeria sealed its place at the World Cup with another 3-2 aggregate victory over Malawi in the final qualifying round, maintaining its remarkable record as the only African nation to qualify for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the competition was introduced in 2002.
The Falconets remain one of the competition’s most successful teams, having finished as runners-up in 2010 and 2014, while also reaching the semi-finals in 2012.
At the 2024 tournament in Colombia, Nigeria opened its campaign with a 1-0 victory over Korea Republic before advancing to the Round of 16, where the team was eliminated by Japan.
For the Poland 2026 finals, the Falconets have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and Paraguay.
With preparations now under way, Aduku and his players will be hoping to build on Nigeria’s proud record in the competition and challenge for what would be the country’s first FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup title.
