Mariah Carey is marking the 30th anniversary of her iconic Daydream album with a special expanded edition packed with previously unreleased material.
Released on streaming platforms on Friday, July 17, the anniversary edition celebrates one of the singer’s most successful albums, which spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and has been certified 11-times Platinum.
Announcing the release on Instagram, Carey reflected on the significance of Daydream, describing it as an era filled with career milestones.
“This album marked an era of firsts for me: my first rap collaboration on the iconic ‘Fantasy’ remix with O.D.B., my first time working with JD, my first world tour, my first time directing a music video on my own, and so many more,” she wrote.
The five-time Grammy winner revealed that the anniversary edition also includes a personal milestone: the first-ever release of her private songwriting sessions for “I Am Free,” recorded with Walter Afanasieff, and “Melt Away,” written with Babyface.
“I hope you enjoy this lil’ glimpse into the making of these songs, along with remixes, live performances, acapellas, and B-sides,” she added.
The expanded collection also features fan-favourite remixes, live performances, and a brand-new remix of “Underneath the Stars.”
While the anniversary edition is currently available via streaming services, physical editions, including a triple vinyl LP, two-CD set and cassette, are scheduled for release on October 16.
