The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three armed men who allegedly attacked a female motorist along the Ondo/Ile-Oluji Road in an attempted robbery, raising fresh concerns over security on the busy highway.
The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at Otaasan Area, where the victim, Mrs. Adebusoye Atinuke, 50, was reportedly driving when the assailants emerged and opened fire on her vehicle in a bid to force her to stop.
The police said the attack was an apparent attempt to rob the motorist, but the suspects failed in their mission after the victim displayed courage and managed to drive away unharmed.
Spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command said operatives swiftly responded to a distress report and immediately commenced an intensive combing of the surrounding bushes in search of the fleeing gunmen.
The Command added that the suspects escaped into a nearby forest, while investigations had been intensified to identify, track and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, reassured residents of the command’s determination to protect lives and property across the state.
”The Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State. We have commenced a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to identify, track and arrest the perpetrators of this attack,” the police commissioner said.
Ohagwu urged residents to remain calm but vigilant and to promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels.
He also advised motorists, particularly those travelling during late hours, to remain security conscious and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention.
The police commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of road users across the state, assuring that every effort would be made to bring the fleeing suspects to justice.
