The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, led the party’s gubernatorial campaign in Ila-Orangun on Monday, throwing his weight behind the party’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Addressing residents, Basiru emphasized that with monthly federal allocations to states reaching record highs, Osun is positioned for a significant developmental leap.
He argued that the state requires the specific economic expertise and governance experience that Oyebamiji—popularly known as “AMBO”—brings to the table.
“Recent reports confirm that federal allocations have increased tremendously, a fact acknowledged by the current state government. That is why we are endorsing AMBO. He possesses a deep understanding of business and the economy, and we are confident he will leverage these resources to secure a better future for our children,” Basiru said.
Basiru outlined the APC’s core agenda under an Oyebamiji administration, pledging a renewed focus on civil service welfare, agricultural empowerment, education, and healthcare.
He highlighted the critical role of civil servants as the “engine of government” and promised policies that would modernize the agricultural sector.
By providing farmers with better access to wider markets, he noted, the state could stimulate rural economic growth and job creation.
Basiru addressed the state’s educational needs, specifically citing the current shortage of teachers and the urgent necessity for higher-quality learning standards.
In a critique of the incumbent administration, Basiru claimed that healthcare infrastructure established under previous APC leadership has fallen into neglect. “Many of the facilities we extended to all 332 wards now lack doctors, nurses, and essential medicines. We are committed to restoring public confidence in our healthcare system,” he added.
Speaking at the rally, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), outlined his commitment to completing abandoned road projects, a move he believes is vital to supporting rural agriculture and economic activity.
“Road infrastructure is a top priority because of its direct impact on our farmers. Good roads are essential for transporting agricultural produce, attracting investment, and improving the livelihoods of our people,” Oyebamiji said.
The candidate revealed that he has already initiated discussions with contractors handling several stalled projects, expressing confidence that work will resume immediately upon his inauguration. He emphasized that these initiatives are part of a pragmatic, actionable agenda rather than empty political rhetoric.
“Our mission is to build a stronger, more prosperous Osun. We are presenting concrete plans that will be driven by integrity and accountability,” Oyebamiji said.
He appealed to the people of Ila-Orangun to mobilize voters across the state. He urged residents to extend the same support and confidence they historically showed to party leader Chief Bisi Akande to his own candidacy, aiming for a unified push toward a victory at the polls.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, the Orangun of Ila Orangun, Oba Abdul Wahab Olukayode Oyedotun, gave Oyebamiji his blessings and prayed that his governorship election bid would be successful.
The traditional ruler told the APC gubernatorial hopeful that his wives have already been campaigning for him and had also urged influenced his support for AMBO.
“It is only God who does all things. I don’t have any power. God will answer AMBO and make it possible for him to become the Governor of Osun. AMBO will win the election by God’s grace. We will all experience the victory,” the monarch declared.
