200 Golfers Set For Historic Kano Captain’s Inaugural Tournament

No fewer than 200 golfers from clubs across Nigeria are expected to converge on Kano on Saturday, 25 July, for the Captain’s Inaugural Tournament at the historic Kano Golf Club 1908, one of Africa’s oldest golf clubs.

The one-day tournament marks the formal assumption of office of the club’s newly elected captain, Mr David Emeana, and is expected to attract golfers from across the country in a celebration of sport, fellowship and the rich heritage of the 118-year-old course, widely regarded as the oldest golf course in West Africa.

Speaking ahead of the event, Emeana disclosed that about 200 golfers had already registered for the competition. Participants are expected from Bauchi, Dutse, Enugu, Ikoyi Golf Club 1938, Ikeja, Kaduna, Katsina, Port Harcourt Python Golf Club and the host, Kano Golf Club 1908.

He added that Kano-based professional golfers would also compete in the tournament, which is designed not only to provide high-quality competition but also to strengthen friendship and camaraderie within Nigeria’s golfing community.

The club’s Media Consultant and veteran journalist, Abdulkadir Ahmed Ibrahim, FNGE, said the Governor of Kano State, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf, is expected to attend the closing ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour. The ceremony will take place at the clubhouse following the conclusion of the competition.

Also expected at the event are the Consul General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Kano, His Excellency Khalil Ahmad Admawi, and the Consul General of Lebanon in Kano, His Excellency Khalil Muselmani.

Traditional rulers and prominent northern leaders billed to grace the occasion include the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Muhammad Hamim Nuhu Sanusi; the Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussein Adamu; and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Bashir M. Dalhatu (Wazirin Dutse).

The Captain’s Inaugural Tournament is expected to combine competitive golf with a celebration of the enduring legacy of Kano Golf Club 1908, reinforcing its status as one of Nigeria’s most prestigious sporting institutions.
