Basketball Promoter Igoche Mark Mourns Mother As Family Announces Passing Of Matriarch

Prominent Nigerian basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D’Ball initiative, Igoche Mark, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his mother, Mrs Oyiba Veronica Mark.

According to a statement issued by the family, Mrs Mark passed away peacefully on Monday, 29 June 2026.

Announcing her passing, the family expressed profound grief while submitting to what it described as the will of God.

“With deep sorrow but total submission to the will of Almighty God, the family of Mrs Oyiba Veronica Mark announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend,” the statement read.

The family paid glowing tribute to the late matriarch, describing her as a woman whose life was defined by faith, love, strength and compassion.

They said her kindness, wisdom and unwavering commitment to her family and community left an enduring legacy that would continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.

“Though her departure leaves a great void in our hearts, we are comforted by the beautiful memories she leaves behind and by the assurance that she now rests in eternal peace,” the statement added.

Igoche Mark is one of Nigeria’s foremost basketball development advocates and is widely recognised for establishing the Mark D’Ball initiative, a grassroots basketball programme that has provided opportunities for discovering and nurturing young talents across the country.

The family said funeral arrangements would be announced at a later date, while thanking friends, associates and well-wishers for their prayers and support during the period of bereavement.
