AKURE — A 47-year-old refrigeration and air conditioning technician, Idris Abiodun Clement, has been killed during a robbery attack in the Shagari area of Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Clement, a father of five, was reportedly shot by suspected armed robbers who invaded the neighbourhood in the early hours of the day after attacking other houses.

According to his son, Abdulfatai Clement, the robbers had already robbed two houses before entering their compound.

He said his father confronted one of the suspects in an attempt to protect the family, unaware that several other armed men were involved.

“They attacked him with axes and cutlasses before one of them brought out a gun and shot him,” he said.

The family rushed him to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

A family friend, Hakeem, described the deceased as a hardworking and generous technician who was widely respected in the community.

He said Clement was known for supporting and encouraging people engaged in legitimate businesses.

The deceased’s widow, Taibat Clement, appealed to the government and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the killing are brought to justice.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command said one suspect had been arrested in connection with the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect is in custody while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the robbery gang.

He assured the family and residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
