Yobe Government Donates Sports Equipment To Security Agencies

The Yobe State Government has donated sports equipment to security agencies as part of its post-insurgency recovery and peace-building efforts.

Presenting the items on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Youth, Sports, Social and Community Development, Alhaji Barma Shettima, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote physical fitness and strengthen collaboration within the state’s security architecture.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Muhammad Gidado Abubakar, the commissioner described sport as a powerful tool for fostering healthy living, enhancing teamwork and strengthening the cordial relationship between security agencies and their host communities.

He said the donation reflects the commitment of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration to building a healthy, secure and productive society through programmes that encourage unity and social cohesion.

The donated items include 18 footballs, sets of jerseys, 10 tracksuits, two additional match balls, 12 pairs of football boots and other sporting equipment. According to the commissioner, the gesture is intended to recognise the invaluable role of security personnel in sustaining peace, security and unity across Yobe State.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiary agencies, the representative of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel W.O. Ahmad, expressed appreciation to the state government, describing the donation as timely and beneficial.

He said the equipment would boost sporting activities within the security agencies while also encouraging stronger engagement with local communities through organised sporting competitions, particularly football matches.

In his remarks, the North-East Zonal Vice-President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Comrade Ahmad Kagana Amshi, commended the Yobe State Government for its sustained investment in sports development.

He reaffirmed SWAN’s commitment to promoting sports across Yobe State, the North-East region and Nigeria, noting that sporting activities remain an effective platform for peace-building, youth engagement and post-conflict recovery.
