Three students of the Federal University of Lafia were abducted by gunmen on Monday night, the Nasarawa State Police Command said Tuesday.

The police however said one the students  has been rescued.

The Command said it received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of the university reporting that unidentified armed persons had taken three students from the lodge.

Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro Mohammed immediately deployed tactical teams, patrol operatives, and other security personnel to the scene.

Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel said  coordinated search-and rescue operation was launched in the surrounding forest.

SP Nansel added that the operation led to the rescue of one of the abducted student, while two others remain in captivity.

He quoted CP Mohammed to have  directed all operational and intelligence assets of the Command to sustain the operation until the remaining victims are rescued unharmed.
