Violence erupted early this morning with clashes reported between Yoruba and Hausa groups in Ojo, Ibadan in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State over alleged killing of tricycle mechanic.
The tricycle mechanic was reportedly stabbed to death overnight by an Hausa scrap collector (scavenger) during an altercation.
According to eyewitness, it was alleged that the attackers, described as Hausa scrap collectors, chased a group of people after pulling a gun from a sack of collected junk before fatally stabbing the victim.
Witnesses also claimed that many northerners in the area have gone into hiding as angry Yoruba youths were demanding that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.
The incident sparked outrage among some youths, leading to clashes and heightened tension in the area.
Some residents reportedly fled their homes for fear of possible reprisals, although the claims could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.
Security personnel, including operatives of Operation Burst and other security agencies, were deployed to strategic locations across Ojoo to contain the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
