During an interview on Cool FM, Tekno said he listened to ‘Ojuelegba’ so often that it naturally influenced his own songwriting. He noted that ‘Rara’ shares the same musical progression as the celebrated record, describing the similarity as intentional rather than coincidental.

“’Rara’ is ‘Ojuelegba’. It’s the same thing. Same progression, same everything. A good chef is always a good chef,” he said, before adding that ‘Ojuelegba’ ranks among his favourite songs of all time, regardless of genre.

Widely regarded as one of the songs that helped elevate Afrobeats on the global stage, ‘Ojuelegba’ remains one of the defining releases of Wizkid’s career.

The 2014 single chronicled the singer’s early struggles and rise from the Ojuelegba neighbourhood in Surulere, earning praise for its heartfelt storytelling. Its international reach expanded further after Skepta and Drake joined a remix the following year.

For Tekno, ‘Rara’ marked a defining moment in his career, cementing his place among Nigeria’s most consistent hitmakers. Nearly a decade later, both he and Wizkid remain influential figures in the evolution of Afrobeats.
