Nigeria’s Digital Economy Gets Boost As Firms Partner To Strengthen Cloud, Cybersecurity

Nigeria’s digital economy has received a major boost following a strategic partnership between global technology services company TeKnowledge and digital infrastructure provider Equinix to strengthen cloud adoption, cybersecurity and AI-ready digital infrastructure across Nigeria and the wider West African region.

The collaboration is aimed at helping enterprises and public sector organisations accelerate secure hybrid and multi-cloud adoption while building resilient digital infrastructure capable of supporting artificial intelligence (AI), advanced analytics and other next-generation digital services.

Announcing the partnership on Thursday, the companies said the alliance combines Equinix’s globally connected data centre infrastructure and secure interconnection platform with TeKnowledge’s expertise in AI, data, customer experience and cybersecurity solutions to help organisations modernise their operations while meeting data sovereignty and regulatory compliance requirements.

According to the firms, the partnership comes at a time when demand for cloud computing, AI adoption, digital payments and data-driven innovation is rising rapidly across West Africa, creating the need for secure, scalable and locally hosted digital infrastructure.

The companies said organisations would benefit from low-latency private connectivity, improved cybersecurity, enhanced regulatory compliance and local data hosting that enables sensitive information to remain within national borders while improving trust in digital services.

They noted that the collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Agenda and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy by providing secure and trusted infrastructure to support digital innovation across critical sectors of the economy.

The partnership is also expected to contribute to skills development and job creation by leveraging TeKnowledge’s workforce of more than 2,000 engineers, including a strong base of Nigerian technology professionals, to design, deploy and manage complex digital transformation projects.

President and chief executive officer of TeKnowledge, Aileen Allkins, said organisations across Africa are increasingly seeking modern digital infrastructure that combines high performance with security and regulatory compliance.

She said the partnership with Equinix would enable customers to accelerate cloud adoption, strengthen digital resilience and unlock new opportunities through AI and emerging technologies.

The managing director of Equinix West Africa, Wole Abu, said the collaboration brings together Equinix’s global platform of more than 280 data centres serving over 10,000 customers worldwide with TeKnowledge’s local expertise.

According to him, the partnership will empower organisations to harness AI-driven innovation, expand cloud adoption and build secure, resilient digital ecosystems across West Africa.

Also speaking, territory director for Africa at TeKnowledge, Olugbolahan Olusanya, said organisations require more than technology platforms to succeed in digital transformation.

He said the partnership would simplify the adoption of secure hybrid cloud infrastructure, enhance cybersecurity resilience and provide infrastructure strategies tailored to the realities of African markets.

The firms said the partnership will initially focus on sectors where secure and scalable digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical, including financial services, fintech, telecommunications, government institutions, healthcare, energy and utilities, as well as digital-native enterprises.

They added that the initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, improve cybersecurity resilience and support the Federal Government’s vision of building a secure, connected and innovation-driven digital economy.
