We Raised FCT Monthly IGR To Over N40bn In 3 Years

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, said

the FCT Administration has increased its monthly internally generated revenue (IGR) from about N9 billion to more than N40 billion since he assumed office, attributing the surge to sweeping reforms in revenue collection and administration.

Speaking during a media chat with journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the remarkable increase was the result of deliberate policies aimed at blocking revenue leakages, improving tax collection and strengthening the financial management of the nation’s capital.

According to him, the improved revenue profile has provided the financial capacity to execute critical infrastructure projects and improve service delivery across the Federal Capital Territory.

“When we came on board, our IGR was a mere N9 billion a month, but as I speak to you today, we’ve been able to improve it to forty-something billion. So when people now say, ‘Oh, FCT is working, FCT is working,’ it’s working because somebody has made it to work,” Wike said.

The minister stressed that the increase in internally generated revenue was not accidental but the outcome of intentional reforms introduced by his administration.

He said the additional revenue has enabled the FCT Administration to finance ongoing development projects without overreliance on federal allocations, adding that residents were already witnessing the impact through improved infrastructure and public services.

Wike attributed the progress to prudent management of public resources, stronger institutional processes and greater accountability in governance.

He maintained that effective leadership and sustained reforms remain essential to delivering meaningful development, saying the FCT’s revenue growth demonstrates what can be achieved when government institutions are properly managed.

According to the minister, the administration will continue to build on the gains recorded to ensure improved infrastructure, better public services and sustainable development across the nation’s capital.
