Spain winger Lamine Yamal has insisted France, not Spain, should be the side feeling the pressure ahead of Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup semi-final.
Yamal made the bold claim after producing a Player of the Match performance in Spain’s 2-1 quarter-final victory over Belgium.
Spain will now face Kylian Mbappé’s France for a place in the World Cup final.
Although Les Bleus have won all their matches in normal time during the tournament, Spain head into the contest with recent psychological advantage, having defeated Didier Deschamps’ side in each of their last two meetings.
Speaking after the Belgium victory, Yamal said:
“I think that if France has to fear anyone, it’s us.
“We’re the ones who have knocked them out before.”
Spain will be aiming to extend that impressive record when the two European heavyweights renew their rivalry in Dallas.
