A 60-year-old man who checked into a hotel in Dutse, Jigawa State with a 20-year-old woman has been reported dead.
The incident was made known by the Jigawa State Police Command which has launched an investigation into the sudden and unnatural death of the man.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday night that the incident was reported on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at about 12:50 p.m.
“The incident occurred at a hotel in Dutse, where a 60-year-old man who checked in with a 20-year-old woman suddenly developed a medical emergency after requesting a meal,” Adam stated.
He explained that the man reportedly started gasping for air shortly after the meal was served.
“Upon receiving the distress report, police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded swiftly to the scene,” the PPRO said.
He added that the victim was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Dutse, for medical attention.
“At the hospital, he was examined by medical personnel and unfortunately certified dead,” he added.
Adam said detectives secured the scene and conducted a preliminary examination immediately after the incident.
“During the exercise, some food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal effects were recovered for further examination,” he stated.
He noted that all necessary procedures were followed to preserve exhibits and aid a comprehensive investigation.
“Following medical certification of death and completion of necessary procedures, the remains of the deceased were released to his family for burial in accordance with their request,” he said.
The PPRO also confirmed that the 20-year-old woman who was with the deceased at the time is cooperating with investigators.
“She is providing useful information to assist in establishing the sequence of events leading to the unfortunate occurrence. The investigation remains ongoing,” Adam said.
The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, assured the public that the case would be handled professionally.
“The investigation will be conducted thoroughly, professionally, and impartially,” the CP said through the PPRO.
Adam urged residents to avoid speculation and the circulation of unverified information that could cause panic or prejudice the investigation.
“We urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary anxiety,” he warned.
The command said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
