The House of Representatives has withdrawn its proposed constitutional amendment seeking to establish state police in Nigeria.
The decision followed the introduction of a separate State Police Bill by the Executive.
At Tuesday’s plenary, lawmakers passed the Executive-sponsored bill through its first and second readings.
The bill was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative consideration.
The withdrawal effectively places the House’s earlier proposal on hold as attention shifts to the Executive-backed version.
Members of the committee are expected to examine the bill’s key provisions before it returns to the House for further consideration.
