APC Youth Group Urges NWC To Back Obaro For Kogi Central Senatorial Ticket

The APC Youth Vanguard in Kogi East has urged the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to give the party’s Kogi Central Senatorial ticket to Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made the call on Tuesday in Abuja in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Comrade Umar Isa, popularly known as “Radical”. It said Obaro’s emergence as the party’s candidate would strengthen the APC’s electoral prospects in Kogi Central.

The group also urged the APC leadership to base its decision on what it described as the party’s electoral interests rather than sentiment, warning that the choice of candidate could influence the party’s performance in the district.

It argued that Obaro’s candidature would help reduce political tension in Kogi Central and improve public confidence in the party.

“Handing the ticket to Obaro will douse tension, restore public confidence and reposition APC in Kogi Central as a party of peace, order and progress,” the statement said.

The youth group further claimed that reports suggesting former Governor Yahaya Bello may not secure the senatorial ticket had been welcomed in parts of the state, adding that the development reflected what it described as growing confidence in the APC and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid.

It proposed what it described as a winning senatorial lineup for the state, comprising Senator Jibrin Isah (Echocho) for Kogi East, Senator Sunday Karimi for Kogi West and Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro for Kogi Central, arguing that such a combination would boost the party’s performance in the state during the 2027 elections.

The group also alleged  that Bello did not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign and alleged that Kogi East delivered significant votes for the APC candidate despite receiving no logistical support from the state.
“The APC does not need threats. The APC needs strategy. The decision to zone the Kogi Central ticket to Obaro will be recorded as one of the wisest decisions this party will make ahead of 2027.
“It is time to choose progress over problems. It is time to choose Obaro,” the statement added.

Reacting to the group’s position, an APC chieftain from Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State, Samson Adabara Sani, dismissed the call, describing it as a “failed mission.”
Speaking with LEADERSHIP, Sani said no amount of what he described as a campaign of calumny by any group claiming to be APC members would stop the political aspirations of the former governor.

“No amount of campaign of calumny orchestrated by any group parading itself as APC members can stop a moving train,” he said.

Sani also dismissed the group as lacking credibility, insisting that Bello remained a dominant force within the APC in Kogi State.

“Yahaya Bello is APC, and APC is Yahaya Bello in Kogi State. They are faceless people,” he said.
