French football legend Zinedine Zidane has reportedly agreed to become the next head coach of the French national team, signing a contract that will keep him in charge until June 2030. However, the French Football Federation is yet to announce the appointment officially.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development on Tuesday, saying the former Real Madrid manager had signed his contract and would be unveiled in the coming days.
“Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030. The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days — back to work with France,” Romano wrote.
According to Romano, Zidane will lead France into the 2027 UEFA Nations League, UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The 54-year-old has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 after his second spell in charge of the Spanish giants.
During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, Zidane guided Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018, won two La Liga crowns and lifted several other domestic and international trophies.
As a player, Zidane was instrumental in France’s 1998 FIFA World Cup triumph, scoring twice in the final against Brazil.
He has long been linked with the France job and has previously expressed his desire to manage the national team. Didier Deschamps, who has been in charge of Les Bleus since 2012, had earlier announced he would step down after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
