APM Confirms Talks With Lawmakers, Receives Senator Onawo

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has confirmed that it is in discussions with serving senators, members of the House of Representatives and other political leaders across the country over possible defections to the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Yusuf, following what it described as growing enquiries from members and supporters.

According to the statement, the discussions come as the party formally received the senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, who recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APM.

The party said Senator Onawo, a former Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and former member of the House of Representatives, was received at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by the APM National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, and other party leaders.

Speaking during the reception, Dantalle said the APM remained committed to its “Nigeria First” slogan and expressed confidence that the party would be competitive in the 2027 general elections.

He also said the party was working to expand its membership through engagements with elected lawmakers and other political stakeholders across the country.

Responding, Senator Onawo pledged his loyalty to the party and promised to work with its leadership to strengthen its structures in Nasarawa State and support its electoral ambitions ahead of the 2027 polls.

The APM also expressed appreciation to its supporters nationwide and reaffirmed its backing for Seyi Makinde as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
