Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed is relatively new to politics, or in some cases, the ‘business’ of running for president. He first contested the PDP presidential ticket in 2019 but lost to former VP Atiku Abubakar.
But it wasn’t until 2023 that Baba-Ahmed became a household name in Nigeria after Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, picked him as his running mate.
Ahead of the 2027 polls, Obi has teamed up with Rabiu Kwankwaso in the newly formed NDC and taken the shine out of Baba-Ahmed, slowing his political trajectory.
Both Kwankwaso and Ahmed appeared on track to catch up with Atiku on their number of presidential runs. While Atiku is today embarking on his seventh campaign, Kwankwaso has been running for President or VP since 2015 and hasn’t stopped since.
After parting ways, Ahmed has claimed he only agreed to be Obi’s running mate out of pity. He has also since joined the PRP, which has picked Donald Duke as its presidential candidate.
But neither the PRP nor Duke is getting the same social media attention as Obi.
