Broos, who took charge of Bafana Bafana in June 2021, became the longest-serving coach in the team’s history. His tenure included a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the team’s first-ever World Cup knockout stage appearance.
Speaking to Belgian outlet Voetbalnieuws, Broos confirmed his retirement from coaching is final. However, he revealed discussions with SAFA president Danny Jordaan about a potential continued role.
“I have already had a conversation with the chairman of the South African federation. He would like to keep me, but in a different role, as an advisor or something like that,” Broos said.
He added that he will return to South Africa at the end of July for a formal farewell and to hear the federation’s proposal.
