Charles Ogbu Demands State Of Emergency On Child Abuse After Disturbing Abia Video

Nigerian writer and social commentator Charles Ogbu has called on the government to declare a state of emergency on child abuse and violence against children following the circulation of a disturbing video allegedly showing a woman attacking a young girl in Abia State.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Ogbu reacted to the viral footage, which reportedly captured a woman assaulting a young girl believed to be her domestic help and allegedly attempting to cut her throat with a knife.

The incident is said to have occurred at IBB Estate in Umuahia, Abia State.

In the heartbreaking video, the visibly terrified girl is seen shielding her neck with her hands while crying and pleading for mercy as the woman advances towards her with the weapon.

Describing the incident as “a blight on human civilization,” Ogbu urged authorities to take urgent steps to tackle the growing menace of child abuse across the country.

“I have said it again and again, our society needs to declare a state of emergency on child abuse and violence against children,” he wrote.

He also called for stiffer penalties for offenders, insisting that perpetrators deserve the harshest punishment possible to serve as a deterrent.

The video has since sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians demanding the immediate arrest and prosecution of the alleged abuser, while renewing calls for stronger protection of vulnerable children.
