The Edo State Security Squad has arrested 12 suspected cultists during raids on criminal hideouts in Uzebu Quarters, Benin City, Oredo Local Government Area.
The Publicity Secretary of the Edo State Security Squad, George Aburime, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Benin on Saturday following the operation carried out on Friday.
Aburime said the suspects were arrested at Asoro Hill in Uzebu Quarters along Ekenwan Road, an area identified by security agencies as a hotspot for drug trafficking and cult-related activities.
According to him, the suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation and will be prosecuted if found culpable.
He reiterated that the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo would not tolerate criminality or any act capable of threatening law and order in the state.
Aburime also disclosed that the squad visited Iyanomo Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area to intervene in a leadership dispute involving rival groups.
He said the intervention was aimed at restoring peace, urging the parties involved to embrace dialogue and refrain from actions that could disrupt public order.
The ESSS spokesperson appealed to residents not to provide shelter for criminals, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to maintaining peace and security across Edo State.
