To Musa, as he simply wants to be identified, having a supportive wife is like winning the jackpot of life.
The lessons of life have taught him that money comes and goes, jobs rise and fall, but a partner who stays with you through everything is all that really matters.
When they got married, life was sweet. Musa was financially stable, and his wife had everything going smoothly. They were young, in love, and full of dreams. Nothing felt impossible.
But life, as it often does, began to test them. Gradually, things began to change for the worse. The money got tight. Bills were piling up, and responsibilities were increasing. The financial balance Musa and his wife once had started to shake.
In the middle of this struggle, their children came. And what kind of children were they?
Musa described them as loving, supportive and patient beyond their years. They never complained about the little they had. They ate whatever was on the table and showed appreciation. On days when there was nothing to eat, they managed to smile. Their resilience taught Musa lessons he carries till today.
But the person who carried Musa the most was his wife.
In an interaction with LEADERSHIP, Musa said, “She never complained. There were no insults. She never threw my failures in my face or made fun of me when things were hard. She stayed for the children and for me.”
He continued, “She supported every decision he made, even when he was wrong. Even in moments when frustration made me misbehave, she still stayed and held the home together.
“There were times eating was hard, and paying school fees felt impossible. Times when running the household felt like climbing a mountain with no top. But she managed and prayed,” Musa recalled.
While Musa was trying to figure out how to provide, his wife was on her knees asking God to see them through. She did everything she could so that Musa and the children would succeed. Her greatest desire was to see her family win.
From his ordeal and survival, this is the piece of advice he has for every man he meets: “Watch carefully; choose a supporting partner, look for a good wife and loving mother. A friend who will stay with you through thick and thin.”
Now, Musa has been married for over 26 years.
