The Labour Party has debunked claims that it failed to submit the names of its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said the party uploaded all its nominated candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly elections well before the INEC portal closed on 14th July, 2026.
“The allegation making the rounds in some media outlets is patently false, misleading, and exists only in the imagination of the purveyors of that fake news.” he said
Asogwa noted that as at 10th July, 2026, four clear days before the deadline, the Labour Party had successfully uploaded the names of its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates.
He emphasis that the exercise was carried out seamlessly and in strict compliance with INEC guidelines, leaving no room for omission or late submission.
The party expressed concern over the report, which it said was credited to an anonymous INEC official without any attempt to confirm with the Labour Party leadership.
Asogwa added that the development raises legitimate questions about the professional responsibility of the media organisation concerned and whether the publication was intended to serve some ulterior political objective.
He urged party members and the public to ignore the report, noting that INEC will soon publish the final list of validly nominated candidates.
“This latest attempt has collapsed under the weight of the facts, like a pack of cards,” he stated.
