Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has promised to avenge the death of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a message shared on his official Telegram channel during his father’s funeral ceremonies, Mojtaba said those responsible for the killing would be punished.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during U.S. and Israeli airstrikes on February 28, an event that sparked a major regional conflict.
In his statement, Mojtaba Khamenei said avenging his father’s death was not only a personal duty but also the wish of the Iranian people.
“We promise to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all those who lost their lives in the two wars. The criminals responsible for these deaths will be held accountable,” he said.
The new Iranian leader also suggested that Iran’s supporters around the world would help carry out this mission.
He said that whether he was present or not, justice would eventually be served, adding that freedom-seeking people across the world would play their part in achieving what he described as a divine mission.
The statement is one of Mojtaba Khamenei’s strongest public comments since he became Iran’s Supreme Leader following the death of his father.
