Kano records 30 fire outbreaks, five deaths in June

The Kano State Fire Service says it responded to 30 fire outbreaks across the state in June 2026, with five people losing their lives in various emergencies during the month.

In a statement issued on Monday by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the service gave a breakdown of its operations across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.

According to the report, the agency also attended seven emergency rescue operations, while one false alarm was recorded during the period.

The Fire Service disclosed that three people were rescued from different emergency situations, but five others died in separate incidents.

It added that fire destroyed property worth N120.45 million in June, while firefighters successfully saved property valued at N481.8 million from being consumed by fire.

Speaking on the report, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to exercise caution when handling fire.

“Members of the public should exercise caution when using fire and ensure that all sources of fire are completely extinguished after use to prevent avoidable fire outbreaks,” he said.

The director also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children to reduce cases of drowning.

“Parents and guardians should prevent children from playing near puddles, ponds, rivers, or uncovered wells in order to reduce incidents of drowning, particularly among children and young people,” Anas said.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response, public safety awareness, and cooperation from residents.
