Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has signed a 13-year lifecycle service agreement with Baker Hughes to support critical turbomachinery equipment at its Bonny Island liquefaction plant, in a move aimed at driving sustainable LNG expansion, boosting export growth and supporting the successful delivery of the Train 7 project.
Baker Hughes said the agreement extends its more than two-decade relationship with NLNG and will help enhance the operational performance of Train 7, which is expected to increase the plant’s liquefied natural gas production capacity from 22 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 30 MTPA upon completion.
The contract covers comprehensive lifecycle services for equipment supplied by Baker Hughes under a 2021 award, including four heavy-duty gas turbines and associated centrifugal compressors, as well as two additional gas turbines for power generation.
It also includes support from a local Baker Hughes engineering team and iCenter digital services powered by Cordant, which will provide remote monitoring and diagnostics to improve equipment reliability and availability.
NLNG Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, said the partnership would strengthen the long-term operation of the Train 7 project while reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a global LNG supplier.
“Utilizing Baker Hughes’ industry-leading lifecycle services and digital expertise will help support the successful long-term operation of our Train 7 project.
“As we expand our production capacity, we are strengthening Nigeria’s role as a competitive global energy supplier, creating greater economic value for our stakeholders, and supporting a practical energy transition through the delivery of lower-carbon energy solutions.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to operational excellence, innovation and sustainable growth.”
Baker Hughes Chief Growth & Experience Officer and Interim Executive Vice President, Industrial & Energy Technology, Maria Claudia Borras, said the agreement demonstrates the strength of the company’s longstanding partnership with NLNG.
“This agreement reinforces the strength of our long-standing collaboration with NLNG and our commitment to the region.
“Our advanced lifecycle services and regional expertise can help NLNG ensure efficient and reliable operations at its Bonny Island facility, while bolstering energy reliability as Nigeria continues to harness its proven gas reserves to meet growing global energy demands.”
Baker Hughes said the work will be carried out through its Service Center in Port Harcourt, which employs local talent and delivers a broad range of lifecycle services.
The company described the Train 7 project as a key milestone in Nigeria’s ambition to become one of the world’s leading LNG producers by significantly expanding its liquefaction capacity.
