The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Edo State Command has deployed 1,300 personnel across the state to provide security before, during, and after the forthcoming local government election.

The Edo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Akintayo Ayinla, announced the deployment during a press briefing in Benin City, saying the move is to safeguard lives, property, and critical national infrastructure throughout the electoral process.

According to him, the officers will be spread across the three senatorial districts of the state and will focus on polling units, collation centres, and flashpoints identified by the Command.

Commandant Akintayo assured residents that the Corps is ready to discharge its constitutional mandate and create a secure environment for a peaceful election.

He called on them to “shun all forms of violence and electoral malpractice and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise”.

Akintayo also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working with other security agencies to ensure the election is free, fair, credible, and peaceful across all 18 local government areas.

He encouraged eligible voters to come out and vote without fear, adding that adequate security has been put in place across the state.

“The Command is working in synergy with other security agencies. Voters should come out and exercise their civic responsibility without fear,” he added.

The local government election is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 11th July, across Edo State.
