Obi Demands Probe Into Alleged UNIOSUN Hostel Raid

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for a thorough investigation into allegations that soldiers invaded students’ hostels at Osun State University, allegedly assaulting and humiliating students.

Obi, in a statement on Thursday, said he was deeply disturbed by reports claiming that students were beaten, stripped of their belongings and that some female students were allegedly subjected to sexual violence during the incident.

Describing the allegations as disturbing, he said every Nigerian deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, stressing that members of the Armed Forces are known for their professionalism and sacrifice in defending the country, not for abusing the citizens they are sworn to protect.

He urged the military high command to launch a transparent, thorough and impartial investigation into the claims and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.

According to him, holding any offending personnel accountable would not only provide justice for the victims but also protect the reputation of the Nigerian military and help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Obi added that respect for human dignity and accountability are essential to building public confidence in national institutions, insisting that abuse of power and impunity should never be tolerated.
