The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has welcomed the inauguration of the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC), describing it as a major milestone that will strengthen integrity, transparency and Nigeria’s reputation in international sport.
In a statement issued on Friday, Omidiran praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for establishing the board, saying the move underscores the administration’s commitment to protecting the credibility of Nigerian sport and aligning the country with global anti-doping standards.
The Technical Board was inaugurated in Abuja on Thursday following the enactment of the National Anti-Doping Act, 2025, a development Omidiran said reflects the government’s determination to implement international best practices under the World Anti-Doping Code.
The FCC chairman, who also serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, described the establishment of the Centre as a strategic institutional reform that supports the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting accountability, fairness and excellence across Nigeria’s sporting landscape.
“The inauguration of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre Technical Board is a landmark achievement for Nigerian sport. It reflects the Federal Government’s determination to protect clean athletes, uphold integrity in competition and restore greater confidence in Nigeria’s sporting system both nationally and internationally,” she said.
Omidiran noted that sport remains a powerful vehicle for national unity, youth development and economic growth, stressing that preserving the integrity of competitions is essential to maintaining public confidence and enhancing Nigeria’s standing on the global stage.
She reaffirmed the Federal Character Commission’s commitment to initiatives that strengthen public institutions, promote transparency and advance national development, expressing confidence that the Technical Board would play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of clean sport and ethical competition.
The former member of the House of Representatives also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the National Assembly, the National Sports Commission, and other stakeholders whose collaborative efforts led to the establishment of the statutory anti-doping institution.
Congratulating the newly inaugurated board, Omidiran urged its members to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, independence and fairness.
“Their success will not only protect the future of our athletes but also strengthen Nigeria’s standing within the global sporting community,” she added.
The statement was signed by Ademola Lawrence, spokesperson for the Federal Character Commission, and issued from the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
