Ondo State Police Command has arrested four police officers allegedly caught on a viral social media video clip making unprofessional utterances at a checkpoint along the Lagos/Benin Expressway while engaging a motorist.
Addressing journalists on the development on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, the Command’s Spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed that the four officers who appeared in the video had been arrested.
Jimoh disclosed that the Police Commissioner had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the level of culpability of the officers in the alleged unethical behaviour.
The Police Spokesperson identified the suspects as “AP/No. 207454 ASP Elomore Sodayo, AP/No. 332012 Inspector Adefila Adewale, AP/No. 332449 Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi, and AP/No. 332369 Inspector Odusola Peter”.
The Command, therefore, assured the public that any of the officers found culpable during the investigation would face appropriate punitive measures.

He insisted that officers were expected at all times to conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism, respect for human dignity, and in compliance with the Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures.
“The Command assures members of the public that the outcome of the investigation will be guided by the principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability,” he noted.
He warned that any officer found to have acted contrary to the ethics and standards of the Nigeria Police Force would be subjected to appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the law and established disciplinary procedures.
In the viral video clip, the police officers had allegedly stopped a motorist during a stop-and-search operation and collected his documents without going through them.
The motorist, who had just returned from abroad, told the police officer holding the documents to check them because he had nothing to offer to them.
In the ensuing argument, the motorist told them that he was recording their conversations, but one of the officers moved close to him and said he was just being magnanimous with him; else he would have arrested him and taken him to the station with his Sports Utility Vehicle.
One of the policemen later returned the documents to the motorist but held on to his driver’s licence, vowing that if he (motorist) did not pay the money he demanded, he would not release the driver’s licence.
