Police Arrest 31 For Alleged Possession Of Hard Drugs

Abia State Command of the Nigeria Police (Force (NPF) has arrested 31 persons including a lady for being in possession of hard drugs in two hideouts in Umuahia, the state capital.

The police also destroyed the hideouts which were within the Mission Hill/New Road axis, known as “Down Below”, and Amuzukwu, known for illicit drug business and as a refuge for criminals.

In a statement by the police spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka (DSP), which was sighted by LEADERSHIP Friday in the capital, it said the onslaught was in line with the directive of the commissioner, Danladi Isa.

”Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Central Police Station, in collaboration with community vigilantes, carried out coordinated raids on the black spots,” the statement said.

”During the operation, a total of 30 male suspects and one female suspects were apprehended, while various substances suspected to be illicit hard drugs were recovered.”

The statement further informed that during the onslaught several huts and makeshift camps used as safe havens by criminals for concealment and sale of illicit drugs were identified.

”About eight tents and camps constructed with baboon sticks and tarpaulin materials were destroyed and burnt to ashes to dislodge the criminal syndicates and disrupt their activities.”

‎Explaining that the suspects have been charged to court and remanded at a correctional centre, it noted that the commissioner reaffirmed the command’s zero tolerance for crime and criminality.

‎It further said Isa advised members of the public as partners in crime prevention, to promptly report any security concerns by volunteering timely information to the nearest Police Station.
