BIRNIN KEBBI — The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested four suspects for allegedly threatening to kidnap a resident of Jega town unless he paid a N30 million ransom.
The Command’s spokesman, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
According to him, the suspects allegedly targeted Aminu Garba after obtaining his phone number through one of his relatives.
Usman said the suspects used a newly acquired telephone line and allegedly disguised their voices to sound like Fulani kidnappers while repeatedly calling the victim to demand N30 million or face abduction.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives tracked and arrested the suspects identified as Muhammad Shafiu, Mansur Ibrahim and Muhammed Sulaiman, while investigations led to the arrest of a fourth suspect.
The police spokesperson said all the suspects are in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, urged residents of Kebbi State to continue supporting the police by promptly reporting suspicious activities and criminal threats before they escalate.
