Prince Harry Loses Privacy Lawsuit Against Daily Mail Publisher After Lengthy Court Battle

Prince Harry has suffered a major legal setback after losing his long-running privacy case against Associated Newspapers Limited.

On Tuesday, July 7, Prince Harry was attending an event in London linked to the Invictus Games when the High Court delivered its long-awaited judgment.

Harry was among seven high-profile claimants, including Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley and Sadie Frost, who accused Associated Newspapers of unlawfully obtaining private information that was later published in the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday. The claims related to articles published between the 1990s and 2011.

Following a 46-day trial, Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed all of the claims, ruling that the claimants had failed to prove that the publisher gathered information through unlawful means such as hiring private investigators, “blagging” (obtaining information by deception), phone hacking or making corrupt payments.

The judge said the evidence presented did not establish that the articles at the centre of the case resulted from unlawful information gathering, adding that suspicion alone was insufficient to support the claims.

The decision represents a significant defeat for Harry, who has made challenging Britain’s tabloid media one of the defining causes of his public life in recent years.

The legal proceedings are not yet completely over, however. A further hearing has been scheduled for July 29 and 30 to address any outstanding disputes over the consequential orders that should follow the judgment.

Despite the ruling, Prince Harry showed no visible sign of disappointment as he arrived at Chatham House for his scheduled engagement. He appeared relaxed and engaged, even though he likely learned of the court’s decision only moments before entering the venue.
