ABUJA — Retiring Director of Highways Construction and Rehabilitation at the Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Clement Ogbuagu, has called on the Federal Government to prioritise investment in the road sector, describing it as a key driver of economic growth.

Ogbuagu made the appeal at a valedictory ceremony held in his honour at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.

He expressed gratitude to God for a successful career and thanked the Federal Government for the opportunity to serve.

According to him, serving at the federal level provided the opportunity to work with people from across the country, enriching his experience and strengthening national unity.

The outgoing director commended the Minister of Works for introducing innovations and new technologies into road construction, noting that the adoption of concrete pavements has improved the quality and durability of roads.

He urged the Federal Government to ensure timely release of funds for road projects, stressing that efficient road infrastructure is essential for economic development.

“The road sector is critical to the growth of any nation’s economy. Government should ensure that funds are released on time so that projects can be executed without unnecessary delays,” he said.

Addressing civil servants, Ogbuagu urged his colleagues to uphold the rules and ethics of the civil service throughout their careers.

He encouraged them to remain diligent, professional and accountable to ensure they retire with honour.

The retiring director also commended the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP), describing it as a major step towards digital transformation in the public service.

He called for sustained funding and implementation of the reform programme, noting that digitalisation would enhance efficiency and gradually reduce reliance on paper-based processes.

Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Rafiu Adeladan, commended Ogbuagu for his dedication and contributions to the ministry.

He urged public servants to remain committed, disciplined and focused in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Works, Mohammed Goronyo, described Ogbuagu as a dedicated and hardworking officer whose contributions to the ministry would be remembered.
