Kebbi state governor, Dr Nasir Idris, has commissioned the 14.5km Zawaiyya-Unguwar Maidaji-Gwangwan Dikko Road in Tambuwal local government area of Sokoto state.
The commissioned road was constructed by Sokoto State Government at the cost of N4.53 billion under the 9-Smart Innovative Agenda of Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto.
Speaking in Sokoto yesterday, Idris expressed appreciation to the Sokoto state governor for inviting him to be part of the epoch event, thereby boosting the existing cordial relationship between the two states.
He highlighted the importance of road infrastructure in boosting the social and economic lives of the citizenry.
According to him, roads have direct bearing on the well-being of the people, with rural roads serving as the backbone of national development as they facilitate access to schools , health facilities and enhance transportation.
Apart from commissioning the road, the governor who was a special guest of honour, also laid the foundation for the construction of two other roads in Shagari local government area.
The roads are the 7.5km Kajiji to Sanyinnawal, and the 13.5km Mandera-Darin Guru-Jabo Road.
The Kebbi governor lauded Govenror Ahmed Aliyu for investing hugely in roads infrastructure across Sokoto state.
He acknowledged that most communities in Sokoto and Kebbi states are largely agrarian, requiring such projects.
While appealing to Governor Aliyu to sustain the invaluable gesture, Idris urged the communities to jealously guard the infrastructure being provided.
He said, “we must develop the culture of protecting public infrastructure as they are provided with the resources of the people.”
Also speaking, the host governor commended his Kebbi counterpart for honouring the invitation within 48 hours.
He described Kebbi and Sokoto states as one, “indivisible entity.”
Aliyu acknowledged the support of development partners to the development trajectory of the state.
The governor said the roads would boost access to markets, empower citizens and provide socioeconomic opportunities for the people of the state.
While pledging to sustain such projects, Aliyu said several other roads projects had been completed and commissioned, while others are at various stages of completion.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for providing, what he termed as credible leadership to Nigeria, pledging continued support for the president’s people-oriented programmes and policies.”
