Team Nigeria Leaves Aberdeen For Glasgow Ahead Of  2926 Commonwealth Games

With just three days remaining before the start of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Team Nigeria has begun its final journey from its pre-Games training camp in Aberdeen to the host city of Glasgow.

The first batch of Nigerian athletes and officials is scheduled to depart Aberdeen on Tuesday, 21 July, while the second contingent will move into the Games Village on Friday, 24 July, joining teammates already in Glasgow ahead of the opening rounds of competition.

The phased relocation follows several weeks of intensive training and acclimatisation in Aberdeen, where Team Nigeria has been putting the finishing touches to its preparations for one of the Commonwealth’s biggest multi-sport events.

Throughout the training camp, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has provided comprehensive technical, medical and welfare support to ensure the athletes arrive in Glasgow in peak physical condition and fully prepared to compete.

Nigeria will field a strong contingent across several sporting disciplines, with expectations high following a series of encouraging performances by the country’s athletes at recent continental and international competitions.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will run from 23 July to 2 August, bringing together around 3,000 athletes from 74 Commonwealth Games Associations to compete for 215 gold medals across 11 sports.

Scotland is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the fourth time, having previously staged the event in Edinburgh (1970 and 1986) and Glasgow (2014).

The National Sports Commission has expressed confidence in Team Nigeria’s level of preparation, maintaining that the athletes are well equipped to represent the country with distinction and challenge for honours throughout the Games.
