Three suspects in police net over alleged murder of teacher in Kogi

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a staff of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The state police command explained that the arrest followed the conclusion of an investigation into the death of Mariam Usman, who reportedly died from injuries due to the assaults on her.

ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the command’s spokesperson, in a statement stated that the case was reported on June 25, 2026, hence detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, commenced a detailed investigation.

According to police findings, Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary measures she took against his 11-year-old son while carrying out her duties at the school.

He added, “Investigators further alleged that later the same day, the deceased was attacked again by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo while on her way to the mosque for prayers.”

The command also explained that on June 18, Ojonojima Mary, said to be the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly went to the school and assaulted the victim at her workplace.

The victim was said to have been initially treated at Grace Clinic, Ugbamaka, before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical attention, but died on June 25 from injuries allegedly sustained during the attacks.

Police said investigations established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.

The police said the investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.

Naziru Bello Kankarofi, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, hailed the efforts of the detectives for their professionalism and diligence in handling the case, assuring residents that the command remains committed to ensuring justice and tackling violent crimes across the state.

He urged members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands but to always seek lawful means of resolving disputes.
