World Cup 2026: France fail to match Brazil, Germany records after Spain defeat

France on Tuesday failed to match a FIFA World Cup record held by Brazil and Germany after losing their semi-final clash against Spain.

A first-half goal from Mikel Oyarzabal and a second-half goal from Pedro Porro gave Spain a deserved win over France at Dallas Stadium.

France’s defeat against La Roja means Germany and Brazil remain the only nations to reach three consecutive FIFA World Cup finals.

Germany achieved the feat between 1982 and 1990 while Brazil did so from 1994 to 2002.

France had reached the 2018 World Cup final, which they won in Russia after beating Croatia 4-2.

The Les Bleus also reached the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar, which they lost to Argentina via penalty shoot-out.

Unfortunately, they have now lost to Spain in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup, preventing them from matching Brazil and Germany’s records.
