World Cup: Rice fit to start against Argentina

England midfielder, Declan Rice has been passed fit to start today’s World Cup semi-final clash against Argentina, head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed.

Rice has been struggling with illness and came off at half-time in the quarter-final victory over Norway.

He is expected to straight back into the England XI for the clash at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

“Everyone is fit to start and everyone was in training except for Jarell (Quansah) who is suspended and Jordan Henderson,” Tuchel told reporters in Atlanta.

“Rice is ready to start and as well recovered as possible,” the German tactician added.

The Arsenal midfielder has started every England game at the tournament so far and will anchor the midfield against a Argentina side led by 39-year-old Lionel Messi.

Rice’s physicality and ball-winning will be key as England look to control the tempo against the reigning world champions.

“It is a big rivalry, two big football nations, everyone who loves football and follows the World Cup knows about this and about what it brings,” the former Chelsea manager stated.

“We expect an intense and emotional match, with a lot of momentum swings”

The winner of today’s game will go on to face Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
