World Cup final: Mbappe makes prediction after France’s defeat to England

France captain, Kylian Mbappe, has predicted that Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, will score when Lionel Scaloni’s side face Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday.

Mbappe spoke at his post-match interview after France’s World Cup third-place final defeat to England on Saturday night.

The Real Madrid forward, who now leads the way for the Golden Boot with 10 goals, said Messi always scores.

“Leo will score [in the final], that is for sure, he scores every time,” Mbappe told French broadcaster M6.

“I try to help my team score. It’s true that when you score so many goals in the World Cup, it elevates you in certain areas, but I would have preferred not to be the all-time top scorer and to play in the match [the World Cup final].

“It’s good for my legacy to be remembered as one of those players, but that is not what is on my mind right now,” he said.

Mbappe is two goals ahead of Messi in the race to win the World Cup Golden Boot.
